      Bill would place another tax on home sales
            Another hidden tax is on the horizon. The state Assembly's Housing and Local Government Committee is considering Bill A3190 that would allow certain municipalities to impose a local realty-transfer fee (RTF) of 50 cents per $500 when a property is sold.

      Make a donation, help volunteers aid victims of natural disaster
            'Right now, I don't want to live anymore - I don't want to be in this world," said New Orleans resident Kamal Namazi, 49, in a Feb. 14 Associated Press article. Who could blame him for making such a remark after having to pick up the pieces left of his life just 18 months after surviving Hurricane Katrina?

      Elks names eight scholarship winners
            The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, a fraternal organization dedicated to serving our youth, veterans and the needy, awards $2.216 million annually in college scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide. Awards are based on academic achievement, leadership and financial need.

      Plan is practical, upholds quality of neighborhood
            This letter is in regard to an article titled "Potential Sale of Old Schoolhouse Debated" that appeared in the Jan. 25 issue of the Sentinel. I hope that Mayor Bill Neary's proposal to auction the McGinnis School property to an educational operator will get a more open-minded reception from the East Brunswick Township Council.

      Too few residents knew about E.B. firehouse vote
            By the very low turnout for the East Brunswick firehouse vote ("New Firehouse OK'd in 28-20 Vote in E.B.," Sentinel, Feb. 22), it looks like the only people who knew about the election are people associated with the fire department. There should be a minimum number of votes before any budget or referendum can be passed.
