Board should spend money on education, not on legal fees

I completely agree with Florinne Abramowitz and her letter to the editor ("Board Should Live With State Aid, Stop Taking From Taxpayers") published in the March 22 issue of the Sentinel.

We purchased our home in East Brunswick seven years ago, and our taxes have almost doubled in that seven years. As I read the front page of the Sentinel's March 22 issue, I can finally see the frivolous spending of the East Brunswick Board of Education. How much of our tax dollars is being spent on lawsuits such as the one that is featured on the front page against Coach Borden? I don't know Coach Borden, nor does my high school senior play sports; however, I can only assume that he must be doing something right if he has been a coach for 24 years.

Most of us believe in some type of God or maybe some sort of higher power. So what is the big deal whether the players take a knee and bow their head? Why can't the kids pray to whom or what they believe in? Who is this really hurting? Why are there so many people in the world with nothing but time on their hands to initiate ridiculous actions against good-hearted people who are clearly utilizing so much of their own time on other people's children?

I am quite certain that having a little bit of religion or a belief system surely never hurt anyone. So why is the Board of Education risking having to spend money on legal fees when that money can actually be spent on education?

I just wonder if the parents who made the original complaints to the district would have pursued this matter if they had to pay the attorney fees and court costs out of their own pockets. I guess these are the parents who would rather see our taxpayers' money spent on lawsuits rather than what it should be spent on: educating our children.

I just don't get it, but I do know how I will vote on April 17 because of things like this. Do you?
