      Budget OK'd; teen wins seat on board
      Howard, Luxenberg win new terms along with high school senior
            EAST BRUNSWICK - The Board of Education won approval for its budget and received a new 18-year-old member during Tuesday's school election. The approved spending plan, which follows two years of failed budgets, carries a nearly 37-cent increase in the school tax rate, meaning a school tax hike of almost $370 for the owner of property assessed at $100,000.

      S.R. residents approve tax increase
      Rosenberg, Urbanik, Rafano win terms in five-way race
            SOUTH RIVER - Voters re-elected two incumbents and welcomed a newcomer to the Board of Education Tuesday. They also approved the school budget for 2007-08 in a vote of 675-493. "I am ecstatic that the people chose the children and realized that we needed to pass the budget," said board member Peggy Marino, who chairs the finance committee.

            SPOTSWOOD - The school budget was defeated for the 14th straight year Tuesday, when residents also re-elected an incumbent and gave a former member a term on the Board of Education. The budget went down by a vote of 468-306, meaning that once again it will go to the Borough Council for review and possible cuts.

      Monroe school tab with tax increase OK'd in 68-vote margin
            MONROE - Voters approved the school budget by a narrow margin Tuesday and chose two incumbents and one newcomer to sit on the Board of Education. Amy Speizer, a 15-year board veteran, captured the largest number of votes, with Ira Tessler and Lew Kaufman coming in at a close second and third in the race.
