      S. River, E.B. Rotary golf outing May 3
            The Rotary Club of South River-East Brunswick will hold its 13th annual golf outing May 3 at the Meadows at Middlesex, Plainsboro. Cost is $150 per golfer, which includes greens fees, electric cart, lunch, dinner, beverages and awards.

            The South River Historical and Preservation Society will meet April 27 at 7 p.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, Jeffrie Avenue. The Rev. David Garretson will give a presentation on the history of the church, followed by refreshments, and a visit to the church.

      Golfers sought for Fathers Club outing
            The Immaculate Conception Fathers Club, Spotswood, will hold its annual golf outing on May 7 at Peddie School Golf Course, Hightstown. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. Start time is set for 9 a.m. Cost is $150 per golfer and includes greens fee, motor cart, golf, continental breakfast, barbecue luncheon and beverages. A car will be awarded for a hole in one.

      'Go Fly a Kite' April 28 at Thompson Park
            Monroe Township Recreation will hold "Go Fly a Kite" April 28 from 9 a.m. to noon at Thompson Park opposite the high school (rain date May 5). The free event is open to Monroe residents only, of all ages, and children younger than age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees may bring kites whether homemade or store bought. There will be prizes and refreshments.

      'One Hundred Years of Bottles' opens April 29
            The East Brunswick Museum, 16 Maple St., will open the exhibit "One Hundred Years of Bottles, 1840-1940" April 29 from 2-4 p.m. The exhibit traces the history of antique glass bottles and features types such as soda, medicine, milk and flasks. Bottles are from private collections and the museum collection. Light refreshments will be served at the opening.

      Ethiopian Jews to be focus of discussion
            Howard Gases, executive director, Jewish Federation of Monmouth County, will be the guest speaker at an event set for 8:15 p.m. on April 27 at Temple B'nai Shalom, Fern and Old Stage roads, East Brunswick. Gases will discuss his 2006 trip to Ethiopia to help resettle Ethiopian Jews to Israel. A question-and-answer session will follow during the Oneg.

            East Brunswick Public Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, will sponsor an appearance from Jamie Novak of QVC and HGTV, and the author of "1,000 Quick and Easy Organizing Secrets." Novak will present "How to Have a 25-Hour Day: Get More Done With Less Stress" April 28 from 7-9 p.m. She will offer tips on getting errands done while reducing stress, and autograph copies of her book.

            Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Victory Council 2061, 775 Washington Road, Parlin, will hold its spring dance May 4 from 8 p.m. to midnight. The dance will feature The Fog with Brian Earls, Jack Godowski, Joe Halmi, Ken Jones and Joe Timpone performing classic music from the '60s to the present. There will also be a cash bar, and refreshments available for purchase.

            Corpus Christi Church, South River, will hold its annual carnival May 9-11 at 5 p.m., and May 12 at 4 p.m. at the school grounds on Morningside and Kamm avenues. The event will feature 50/50s, a super 50/50, a basket wheel with prizes, rides, games and various foods. Wednesday night is bracelet night and attendees pay one price to go on rides.

            Boy Scout Troop 3 will hold its first golf classic May 21 at 1 p.m. at Concordia Golf Club, Monroe. Hole sponsorships are still available. The format will be four-man scramble, and the fee is $100 per player. Individuals may enter alone and will be placed on a team. A dinner and prizes will follow the classic.

            ASSE International Student Exchange Program is seeking local host families for boys and girls ages 15-18 who will be arriving from other countries for the upcoming high school year or semester. The students have good English skills, are fully insured, and bring their own personal spending money.

            Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, will present the five-part "Let's Talk About It: Jewish Literature" reading and discussion series May 8 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The free series explores Jewish literature and culture through scholar-led discussions of contemporary and classic books on a common theme. It will explore the theme of "Neighbors: The World Next Door.
