            Welcome to bubble week, the spring edition.This is the week that the middle-of-the-road high school sports teams fight to lengthen their seasons, as the NJSIAA state playoff deadlines approach this weekend.

      Bombers seeded fourth in loaded CJ IV bracket
            With a 14-2 overall record, the Sayreville High School boys tennis team heads into its NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV first-round match against Steinert at home this afternoon on a roll. The Bombers are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) White Division along with Monroe and JFK.

      Brookdale baseball team No. 2 seed in Region
            Johnny Johnson has had an entire season to digest what his Brookdale Community College baseball team does best, and what it doesn't do so well. This week, it will be back to training camp for the Jersey Blues as they prepare for the Region XIX Tournament in Gloucester/Camden. The Blues go into the tourney as the No. 2 seed behind Burlington.

      Buffalino rebounds for NES victory
            NEW EGYPT - Dominick Buffalino, of South River, bounced back from his heartbreaking misfortune last week to capture the 30-lap DIRTcar Modified feature event on Saturday night at New Egypt Speedway.

            The Monroe seventh-grade Lady Falcons basketball team improved their record to 4-0 in the Colonial Valley Spring League with a 17-15 overtime win over the eighth-grade West Windsor Plainsboro (WWP) team. Monroe struggled offensively the first half and trailed 9-3 at halftime.

      As water temp heats up, so does the fishing
            Good news, anglers - they're back.Crabby's Bait and Tackle in Keyport tells me that the bluefish have invaded the surf along Keyport and Cliffwood Beach. Surf anglers have been nailing hungry chopper blues up to 10 pounds on bunker (both incoming and outgoing tides) along with plenty of catch-and-release stripers in the mix .
