It was a beautiful spring night last Thursday at Memorial Stadium when the Strikers, a U14 soccer team from the Central New Jersey Silver Bullets Club in East Brunswick, scored an exciting victory over a well-skilled team from the Player Development Academy NB Sharks. The action was fast and furious for both teams, but the home team struck first for a 1-0 lead about 20 minutes into the game. Bobby Fullem opened the scoring for the Strikers off a corner kick from Joe Hartman. The score was tied at halftime.

Both teams had several chances to open the second half, but it was the Sharks who went up 2-1 and seemed to have the momentum on their side. It was another corner kick from Joe Hartman that found Stanley Kong at the six-yard line, and his kick hit the cross bar and landed in the back of the net. With the scored tied at two, both teams were playing hard to try to get the win. The tension mounted and the crowd was enthusiastic as well. With time winding down, the Strikers were awarded another corner kick. It was Hartman again with another perfect corner, and this one managed to curve into the back corner of the net for the game-winning goal. It was a great match for all, and congratulations were in order for everyone involved. The two teams will meet again this Sunday at Heavenly Farms in East Brunswick.
