William J. Perbetsky
Mr. Perbetsky, 71, of North Brunswick, died May 10, 2007, at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. born in Coaldale, Pa., he resided in Pennsylvania and Milltown prior to relocating to North Brunswick 43 years ago. He was a chief lineman for Public Service Electric and Gas, New Brunswick, for 43 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of North Brunswick First Aid and Rescue Squad for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Joan McLaughlin Perbetsky; a daughter and son-in-law, Nadine and Mark Kuntz of North Brunswick; a son and daughter-in-law, Randal and Cathy Perbetsky of East Brunswick; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Richard Donald of Bloomsburg, Pa.; and two grandchildren. Joseph Sawickie Jr.
Mr. Sawickie, 76, of Monroe, formerly of East Brunswick, died May 6, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Audrey Kish Sawickie; a daughter, Beth Ann Sawickie-Walters of the Mercerville section of Hamilton; and a brother, John G. Sawicki. A memorial Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.
Robert C. Arthur
Mr. Arthur, 78, of Old Bridge, died April 13, 2007, in Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. He co-directed the annual carnival at St. Ambrose Church, Old Bridge, for several years. Surviving are a daughter, Ellen of Shelby, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Kathy of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandsons. Services were private. A memorial celebrating Mr. Arthur's life is planned for 3-5 p.m. on May 19 at the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, Old Bridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's disease research.
Dorothy Denegar
Ms. Denegar, 82, of Jersey City, died May 9, 2007, at home. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert A. Denegar Sr., Roger Denegar and Walter Denegar, and by a sister, Alice Denegar. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lorraine Denegar of South River; three nieces, Donna Rice, Diane Denegar and Marie Denegar-Labes; a great-niece; and a great-nephew. Services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Saugerties, N.Y. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery, also Saugerties. Irene S. Sumowicz McHugh
Mrs. McHugh, 86, of Bayonne, died May 9, 2007, in Park Place Center, South Brunswick. Her husband, James McHugh, died in 1968. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Marone of Helmetta and Carol Lisiecki of East Brunswick; three sons, John McHugh, and his wife, Carol, of Downingtown, Pa., James McHugh and his wife, Olimpia, of East Windsor and Kevin McHugh, and his wife, Loretta, of Bayonne; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Cremation was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Martin Lewis
Mr. Lewis, 80, of Monroe, died May 12, 2007, in CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Lewis. Surviving are his wife, Helene Carol Lewis; two sons, Franklin, and his wife, Kelly, of San Diego, Calif., and James, and his wife, Jeannie, of Manalapan; a brother, David Lewis of Charlottesville, Va.; and six grandchildren. Services were held at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Interment was in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Glendale, N.Y. Christopher B. Harris
Mr. Harris, 48, of East Brunswick, died May 12, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was employed for the past 17 years with Exxon Mobil, Edison. He was predeceased by his father, Bernard Harris. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ladenheim Harris; a daughter, Jennifer Harris of East Brunswick; a stepson, Kevin Ladenheim, and his wife, Laura, of Baltimore; his mother, Yvonne Riss Harris of Southampton; a brother, Gene Harris of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge; and a sister, April Harris of East Brunswick. Robert L. Grootegoed
Mr. Grootegoed, of the Whiting section of Manchester, formerly of Old Bridge, died May 6, 2007, at home. His wife, Ann, died in 2006. Surviving are four daughters, Belinda Trainor, Diane Markese, Karen Homeny and Susan Grootegoed, with whom he lived; a son, Robert B. Grootegoed; two sons-in-law, Larry Homeny and Anthony Yaskowcak Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Denise Cook; a sister, Marie Vale; his mother-in-law, Anna Sury; a brother-in-law, Richard Sury; a sister-in-law, Frances Musial; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were private. Arrangements were under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
James Hughes
Mr. Hughes, of Monroe, died May 11, 2007, at home. Surviving are his wife, Francese Barrette Hughes; a son, Steve Hughes; and a granddaughter, Sydney Hughes. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Robert E. Powell
Mr. Powell, 79, of East Brunswick, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died May 3, 2007, in Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. His wife, Anna Marjorie "Marge" Neal Powell, died in 1998. Surviving are three sons, Stephen Powell, and his wife, Debra, of Staten Island, Craig Powell of New York City and R. Scott Powell, and his wife, Teri, of East Brunswick; a daughter, Kimberly Russomano, and her husband, Gerald, of East Brunswick; a brother, Edward Powell of River Edge; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Margres, 75, of Old Bridge, died May 9, 2007, in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, John J. Margres, died in 1988. Surviving are three sons, John Margres, and his wife, Patty, of Danbury, Conn., Mark Margres, and his wife, Robin, of Sayreville and Matthew Margres, and his wife, Valerie, of Saginaw, Mich.; a daughter, Laura Widmer, and her husband, Michael, of Monroe; a sister, Priscilla Ege of Bayonne; and 12 grandchildren. John K. "Jack" Meyer
Mr. Meyer, 63, of Old Bridge, died May 13, 2007, in Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center, Edison. He was a project manager for the Middlesex County Utilities Authority, Sayreville, for the past five years. A professional photographer, he also owned Jack Meyer Photography, Old Bridge. Surviving are his wife, Suzanne Skelly Meyer; and two sons, John R. of Wood-Ridge and Michael of New York City. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Patrick A. Ambrosia
Mr. Ambrosia, 71, of Old Bridge, died May 14, 2007, in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by a grandson, Bobby Hughes. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Abod Ambrosia; two daughters, Louise Hughes, and her husband, Robert, of Sayreville, and Charlotte M. Ambrosia of Old Bridge; two sons, Patrick W. Ambrosia, and his wife, Patrice, of West Somerville, Mass., and Michael P. Ambrosia of South Amboy; a brother, Frank Ambrosia of Freehold; and seven grandchildren. Services are planned for 11:30 a.m. on May 17 at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Parlin.
James Nicholas
Mr. Nicholas, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died May 14, 2007, in St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Wasilkowski Nicholas; a son, Michael N., and his wife, Amber, of Edison; a daughter, Nicole Nicholas of Parlin; a brother, George Nicholas of the Toms River section of Dover; and two grandsons. A service was held at St. Demetrios Church, Perth Amboy. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick.
