The Monroe Junior Legion Falcons dropped a pair of games to Middlesex (16-7) and Bishop Ahr White (7-3) this past week. Also, Monroe was trailing Metuchen, 4-3, when their Thursday evening game was postponed due to rain.

On Monday, Monroe jumped out quickly against Middlesex, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Joe Ruopoli led off with a double and scored on Nick Dini's RBI single. After Dini stole second, Kyle Waldron reach on an infield single and both runners advanced on a passed ball. Chris Pritzlaff knocked in both runners with a single to right. Pritzlaff stole second and scored on a James Domino single to right. The lead was short-lived as Middlesex plated seven runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the third to lead 10-4. Monroe narrowed the gap in the fifth with three runs of their own. E.J Schmierer singled and moved to third base on Ruopoli's double. Nick Russo singled in both runners. After Dini's third hit of the game, Waldron knocked in Russo and Zach Batchelor walked to load the bases. The rally ended with an inning-ending double play. Angel Trento also added a double for the Falcons in the sixth but was left on base. Middlesex continue to extend the lead with five runs in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth. Monroe's sloppy play in the field was costly as the Falcons committed 11 errors in all to allow 12 unearned runs in the game. Joe Haddad (1 2/3 innings, 4 K's, 3 hits), Russo (4 1/3 innings, 1 K, 4 hits) and Batchelor (1 inning, 2 K's, 2 hits) all pitched well and deserved a better outcome.

On Thursday, Monroe played into the top of the third inning at home against Metuchen before the game was postponed because of rain. Again, Monroe would take an early lead, scoring two in the first and one run in the second. Russo scored on Waldron's RBI single. After a Batchelor single, Domino knocked in the second run. The first inning ended as Batchelor was thrown out at the plate on a Pritzlaff single up the middle. On the defensive end, Batchelor, Dini and Ruopoli turned a sweet 3-6-1 double play to squelch a rally. In the second, Haddad walked and moved to second on Kevin Conklin's sacrifice. Ruopoli singled in Haddad to plate Monroe's third run.

In the top of the third, Metuchen scored four runs to take the lead on a pair of lead-off walks and some timely hitting. Metuchen leads the game 4-3 with two outs and a runner on first in the third. The game will be continued on Saturday, July 7.

Monroe ended the week with an away game at Bishop Ahr. Bishop Ahr took the lead in the second with their first run followed by three runs each in the second and third innings. Monroe's defense appeared sharp to start the game as Monroe turned two double plays early. Dini threw out a runner at first after catching a fly in center, while Sanchez, Pritzlaff and Batchelor turned a nice 6-4-3 play in the second. In the third and fourth inning, once again some fielding mistakes led to three unearned runs. Monroe's bats were quiet as they managed only one hit through five innings. That hit was off the bat of Casey

This week Monroe faced off at home against Milltown on Monday and traveled to Father & Son yesterday, before taking on Piscataway later today.
