      Library patrons to win 'mystery' gift baskets
            Cardholders at the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St., will have the opportunity to win one of two Summer of Mystery and Imagination Gift Baskets donated by the Friends of the Spotswood Public Library. All Spotswood Library cardholders are eligible to participate by checking out library material. Patrons will receive one free raffle entry per item checked out.

      Artists' fading vision to be topic of lecture
            The Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission will present "Eye of the Beholder," a free visual-arts lecture with Phyllis Rakow, at 6:30 p.m. on July 17 at East Jersey Olde Towne Village, 1050 River Road, Piscataway. Rakow will offer information on how the creative process of many well-known painters in Western art history has been affected by less than 20/20 vision.

            The Rev. Carlton Branscomb of Princeton will offer a presentation titled "Peace With Justice at Home and Abroad" at the next meeting of the Coalition for Peace Action of Monroe Township set for 10 a.m. on July 18 at the Monroe Township Municipal Building, Perrineville Road.

      Berry Fest, Yard Sale will benefit library
            The Friends of the Jamesburg Public Library will hold a Berry Festival and Yard Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 21 at the library, Gatzmer Avenue. The event will feature berry shortcake to eat on the premises and various berry baked items to purchase and take home. A yard sale will be conducted on the lawn.

      Vacation Bible school on tap at Jamesburg church
            The Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg, 177 Gatzmer Ave., will hold its annual one-week vacation Bible school from 6:30-8 p.m., Aug. 6-10. Youngsters ages 3 and up are invited to attend. The theme will be "Sonforce Kids: Special Agents, on a Mission for God." Admission is free of charge.

      'Tsotsi' to be screened at library film festival
            The 25th annual Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will continue on July 17 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. screenings of the Zulu-Afrikaans-English drama "Tsotsi." The 2005 movie, which is rated R, has a running time of 94 minutes.

            A program titled "Tea and the Art of Tea-Leaf Reading" is set for noon on July 23 at the Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St. Presenter will be Judith Krall-Russo, food historian and tea specialist. Discussion will focus on the history of tea and how, over the centuries, the reading of tea leaves has become popular.
