Monroe Senior Legion team getting its feet wet

      For coach Mike Quaglietta, fielding a senior American Legion team for Monroe Township has meant watching younger players develop, and marking progress in terms other than wins and losses. Monroe, which is sponsored by Post 519 in Concordia, has a 3-15 mark with two games remaining.

      The College of New Jersey's senior catcher Gerard Haran has signed with the St. George RoadRunners of the Golden Baseball League. Haran, a Matawan native who attended Old Bridge High School, put together a stellar career at TCNJ yet was passed over in last month's Major League Baseball draft.

      The Monroe Township Hoops Scholarship Fund will host its fourth annual Golf Outing at Concordia Golf Course on July 30. Registration will begin at noon, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The awards dinner will follow immediately after at Villa Laura Restaurant in Monroe. The cost of $110 per player includes golf, cart and dinner.
