• 1-Cent Sale, featuring hard-cover books, paperbacks, magazines, audiobooks and VHS tapes for 1-cent each, sponsored by the Friends of the South River Library, during regular library hours, through Aug. 3 or until stock is depleted, at the library, 55 Appleby Ave. All items in the Friends' book-sale department are being liquidated in anticipation of the upcoming library renovation and temporary relocation. • Empty Inkjet- and Laser-Printer Cartridge Collection, sponsored by South River High School Class of 2007 Project Graduation. Donations may be dropped off at 19 Leonardine Ave., corner of Garden and Leonardine. Call Debbie at (732) 238-2849.

• "Community Savings" Book Sale, sponsored by Sayreville War Memorial High School Bombers Basketball. Discount price: $10 per book, two for $15. Proceeds benefit Bombers basketball programs. Coupons, valid through December, feature discounts at area businesses including Ria Mar Restaurant, Modell's Sporting Goods, Marty's Shoes, Karl's Appliances, Feet First, McDonald's, Burger King, Auntie Anne's Pretzels, more. • Cruise Nights/Car Shows, sponsored by Just Us Cruisers Classic Car Club, 6-9 p.m., in the parking lot at 1980 Route 35 North, next to F-1 Motoring, South Amboy/Sayreville. Family-oriented events feature more than 50 antique and classic cars from across the tristate area. Trophies, games, music from the '50s, '60s, '70s. All proceeds benefit the Sayreville Brain Injured Children Association. Businesses invited to donate a trophy and have their names mentioned at the shows. • '50s Car Wash, sponsored by the Sayreville Main Street Theatre Company, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Main Street Theatre parking lot, 3018 Bordentown Ave., Parlin section of Sayreville. Music, refreshments, more, all with a 1950s theme. Proceeds benefit the theater group.

• Berry Festival and Yard Sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Jamesburg Public Library, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the library, Gatzmer Avenue. Berry shortcake to eat on premises, various berry baked items to purchase and take home. A yard sale will be conducted on the lawn. All proceeds benefit library programs.

July 21 & Saturdays ongoing

• Organic Fertilizer and Cleaning-Material Sale, featuring chemical-free products, sponsored by the Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership, 9 a.m. to noon, Saturdays ongoing, at the group's headquarters building, 85 Washington Ave., Milltown. The nonprofit partnership, dedicated to the protection of the Lawrence Brook Watershed, encourages area residents to avoid the use of toxic lawn and garden products and cleaning liquids.
