      Open house will honor temple's 25th birthday
            The Jewish Congregation of Concordia and Monroe, located in the Concordia Shopping Center, Perrineville and Prospect Plains roads, will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 5 in honor of the temple's 25th anniversary and to welcome new members and residents.

      Middlesex County Fair Aug. 6-12 in E. Brunswick
            The 2007 Middlesex County Fair will take place Aug. 6-12 at the fairgrounds at 655 Cranbury Road in East Brunswick. Amateur crafters, artists, photographers, bakers, canners, and those who sew are invited to take part in "home arts" competitions at the event. There are also categories for vegetables, fruit and flowers.

            South River High School (SRHS) is once again seeking nominations for selection to the South River High School Wall of Fame. The purpose of the wall is to identify and recognize the superior achievement and performance of former SRHS students within various fields of endeavor.

      Helmetta to join in National Night Out
            Helmetta will hold its first National Night Out event from 6:30-9 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Helmetta Municipal Building, Main Street. The event will feature a barbecue, a moonwalk, face-painting, a DJ, games and prizes. Members of the Helmetta Municipal Alliance, the borough police and fire departments and the first aid squad will be on hand.

      Milltown rec sponsoring trips, youth programs
            The Milltown Department of Recreation will offer several upcoming events. All trips and programs are open to residents and nonresidents. A four-week Fall Youth Art Odyssey program for ages 4-16 is planned for Sept. 8-29. Call the rec office for times and pricing.

      'I'm Not Scared' to be screened at festival
            The 25th annual Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will continue on July 31 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. screenings of the Italian thriller "I'm Not Scared." The 2003 movie, which is rated R, has a running time of 108 minutes.

      Students invited to join youth conservation corps
            Middlesex County youth interested in working to improve and preserve area parks this fall may apply now for positions with the Middlesex County Youth Conservation Corps. The corps uses youth employment to work on the more than 6,000 acres of open space owned and maintained by the county.

      National Night Out festivities scheduled in E.B.
            The East Brunswick Police Department's celebration of the 24th annual National Night Out Against Crime is set for 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 7 around the municipal pond, behind East Brunswick Police Headquarters, Jean Walling Civic Center.

      Youth to hear offenders on drug, alcohol abuse
            South River Parks and Recreation will host a Project P.R.I.D.E. presentation at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 in the cafetorium at South River Middle School, 3 Montgomery St. The event, presented by the New Jersey Department of Corrections, will bring minimum-custody offenders from a state-correctional facility to talk about their personal experiences with drugs and alcohol.

      Celebration will mark church's 50th birthday
            St. Bernadette's Church, 20 Villanova Road, Parlin section of Old Bridge, will celebrate is 50th anniversary with a dinner-dance beginning at 1 p.m. (after the 11:30 a.m. Mass) on Sept. 30 at the Grand Marquis, Route 9, Old Bridge. The event will feature a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. Music will be provided by Bobby Byrne. Cost is $55 per person.

      Blood drive planned for Aug. 4 at O.B. church
            St. Thomas the Apostle Church, in cooperation with Knights of Columbus Council No. 4815, will hold a summer blood drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 in the parish auditorium, Route 18 south, Old Bridge. Donors must be between the ages of 17 and 75, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in reasonably good health.

      Seniors offering excursion to Wildwood
