Open house will honor temple's 25th birthday

The Jewish Congregation of Concordia and Monroe, located in the Concordia Shopping Center, Perrineville and Prospect Plains roads, will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 5 in honor of the temple's 25th anniversary and to welcome new members and residents.

Refreshments will be served. Entertainer Tuvia will perform Broadway, Yiddish, Hebrew and folk melodies for sing-alongs and dancing.

The conservative Jewish synagogue has approximately 1,700 members. In addition to daily, Sabbath and holiday services, the temple offers lectures, films, classes, special events and community projects.

Evelyn Goldstein, president, will welcome guests to the open house. The range of activities and the 25-year history of the synagogue will be summarized by Dr. Robert Sherman, immediate past president. Lillian Rich, Sisterhood president, will offer information on the group.

Interested individuals will have the opportunity to sign up for any committee or activity reflecting their special interests and talents. New initiatives are welcome. Officers and committee chairmen and chairwomen will be present.

Norman Avrutin is chairman of the open house.

For more information, call the congregation offices at (609) 395-1952 or Norman Avrutin at (609) 409-1355.
