      South River rec to hold Aug. 11 Fishing Derby
            South River Parks and Recreation will sponsor its annual Fishing Derby from 10 a.m. to noon on Aug. 11 at Bissetts Pond in Grekowski Park, Whitehead Avenue. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Borough residents through age 13 are eligible to participate. Prizes will be awarded.

            The Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St., will host a book sale during regular library hours, Aug. 18-Sept. 8. Hardcover books, paperbacks, children's books, audiocassettes and VHS videos will be available. Paperbacks will sell for 50 cents each or three for $1, hardcovers for 75 cents and up, VHS videos for $1.

            South River High School (SRHS) class of 1967 will hold a 40-year reunion from 6-11 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Ria Mar Restaurant, 25 Whitehead Ave., South River.             The 25th annual Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will conclude Aug. 14 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. screenings of the Spanish comedy-drama "Volver," starring Penelope Cruz.       Free DVD rentals at Spotswood Library
            The Spotswood Public Library, 548 Main St., is offering library cardholders the opportunity to borrow DVDs overnight, without charge, during the month of August. All DVD rentals are free of charge as long as the materials are returned before closing time on the following day. All DVDs must be returned in the inside book drop; they may not be returned in the outside book drop.

      New class on tap at early-learning center
            The Early Childhood Learning Center at Temple B'nai Shalom, Fern and Old Stage roads, East Brunswick, will begin a new class in September for 2 1/2-year-olds. Sessions are planned for 9:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays and Wednesdays. The class is designed to introduce the young child to a nursery-school setting.
