      For McInerney taekwondo runs in family
            Laurie McInerney doesn't like to bring attention to herself. But when you are a three-time world champion, that's kind of hard. McInerney, who runs the ATA (American Taekwondo Association) Black Belt Academy in Marlboro, won the world championship in sparring, as well as a bronze medal in traditional forms at the ATA World Championships held earlier this summer in Little Rock, Ark.

      Monroe 8s take third at regional tourney
            After winning the Monroe Township Invitational, the team's seventh consecutive championship, the Monroe 8-year-old All-Stars went 2-1 in the Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic Regional in Albany, N.Y., losing only to Clifton Park, N.Y., and eventually taking third place.

      Tides walk away with win over Team Russia
      ABCCL champs score winning run in bottom of ninth
            The ABCCL champion Jersey Shore Tides capped off their memorable championship season with a victory over the Russian National Team, 5-4, on Saturday at Brookdale Community College in Middletown.

      Taking a dive
           ERIC SUCAR staff Thirteen-year-old Shannon Carney of the Crystal Springs Sandpipers swim team in East Brunswick dives into the pool while competing in the girls 13-18 200-meter freestyle relay race at the recent New Jersey Swimming and Diving Conference championships at the Frog Hollow Swim Club in South Amboy. Carney and her teammates finished fourth in the event, while 12-year-old Omer Hillel, 11-year-old Scott Huang, 18-year-old Theresa Lindboe and 14-year-old Melissa Co all won multiple individual events for the Sandpipers team.

      Fluke, blues still lingering throughout area waters
            Aboard the Prowler 5 out of Atlantic Highlands Capt. Scott has been keeping anglers busy. Magic hours for night blues have been an all out slaughter. Fish are in the 6- to 12-pound range. Mark, Frank and Mike were busy all night gaffing fish. The pool winner was 12 pounds, caught by John Macchiarello of Elmwood Park. Don Spur of Keyport caught 30 himself, releasing 15 of them.
