      New-look Hawks face familiar expectations
            Every football season brings new challenges.Last year, for Dave Callahan's Monmouth University Hawks, it was handling the pressures of high expectations. With a 10-2 record, a Northeast Conference championship and a bowl berth (the Gridiron Football Classic played on Kessler Field against San Diego), the veteran Hawks delivered.

      Father & Son Legion team falls in regional final
            EDISON - Heading into this week's action at the Senior Legion Northeast Regional Tournament in Vermont, the Father & Son team of Edison American Legion Post 435 was just two wins shy of advancing to the Legion World Series in Oklahoma. On Monday, they got within one game of the Series by beating Brockton, Mass.

      Local racer earns spot at National Championships
            Devin Kusmider just recently had his dream come true.The 7-year-old dirt-bike racer qualified for the largest amateur motocross race in the world, the 26th annual AMA/Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. Devin took on over 20,000 hopefuls from across America to earn one of just 1,386 qualifying positions.

      World-record fluke caught in New Jersey waters
            The news is out - a potential world-record fluke was caught this week in New Jersey. Controversy, congratulations, disbelief or a fluke - the Internet fishing sites are loaded with all kinds of questions and comments. Monica Oswald of Neptune landed a 38-inch, 24.3-pound fluke off Monmouth County in about 55 feet of water this week, according to reports across the Web.

            Congratulations to the East Brunswick Baseball Leagues 13U All Star team for having a great summer of tournaments. The team played together for the first time in the East Brunswick Memorial Day tournament, won a tournament in Montgomery and had five wins and one loss in its final tournament in South Brunswick. The team is looking forward to continuing its fine season in fall baseball.
