      Old Bridge field hockey still looking for initial win
            Despite playing reasonably well over its first four games, the Old Bridge High School field hockey team is 0-2-2. "It's been very frustrating to be in every game and have just two ties to show for it," Lady Knights coach Rose Daganya said. "One of the reasons is that we've struggled to play a full 60 minutes.             The Old Bridge Revolution U13 girls soccer team opened its season with a convincing 4-0 win over the Toms River Allstars at Riverwood Park field. The Revolution's relentless attack as well as superb defense keyed the victory. Natasha Amaro scored two goals while Natalie Principato and Melissa Jerome scored one each.

      St. John Vianney soccer falls to Holmdel 3-1
            On the heels of a 10-7 campaign last fall, the youthful Holmdel High School girls soccer team is poised to contend for the Shore Conference's Class A Central title this fall. Though still early, the Hornets took a big step in that direction Friday with a solid 3-1 victory over division rival St. John Vianney.

      Blues, fluke, and then some on full display this week
            With current weather fluctuations, fishing remains solid throughout the shoreline. Aboard the Captain Dave from Atlantic Highlands is the Wade Ray Construction Co. from Monmouth. Another group wanting to squeeze in the last of the fluke season resulted in a trip down the Reach Channel, which provided only a slow pick of fish.
