      Sayreville girls soccer looks toward postseason
            With two weeks remaining before the Oct. 12 cutoff to qualify for the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV playoffs, the Sayreville High School girls soccer team owns a 5-3 mark. Coach Leah Craig's team has eight games remaining before that date, when teams must have a .500 or better record to qualify.

            The Old Bridge Hornets girls U8 soccer team improved its record to 2-1 with a thrilling 3-2 defeat of the Oceanport Knights on Saturday in Oceanport. After falling behind early 1-0, Jessica Schmidt scored two consecutive goals as the Hornets pulled ahead 2-1.

      Knights look to clinch another postseason berth
      Old Bridge coach nearing 100 victories at school
            The Old Bridge High School girls soccer team is off to a 3-2 start as it seeks its ninth consecutive NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV playoff berth. Thus far, coach Rob Lozzi's squad has scored a pair of 5-0 triumphs over Edison and Piscataway, as well as a 3-2 win against South Brunswick. Its losses came at the hands of Westfield, 4-2, and East Brunswick, 3-0.

            East Brunswick Area Youth Wrestling Club is currently accepting registrations for the upcoming winter season. The program is open to youth in grades K-8 of all abilities from beginners to advanced and offers levels from practice-only squads to teams that compete against other local recreation wrestling programs and in team tournaments.

      Fishing is solid and getting better
            Weakfish and striped bass are showing up along the coast in flurries from Raritan Bay to Barnegat Bay. Porgies are showing up along the local piers in big numbers, and plenty of slammer blues are still patrolling the coastline in pursuit of peanut bunkers. Bluefish have been fattening up before they head out for the winter.

            Brookdale Community College's men's soccer team has given new meaning to the term "road warriors." With only one of their first eight matches being played in the state of New Jersey, let alone at home, the Blues have earned their road stripes. With a 6-1-1 overall record, the Blues are no worse for wear and tear.
