Democrats' campaign literature does not reflect reality

Irecently received a flier in the mail from the "Middlesex Democratic Team."

Three major topics mentioned in the mailing under the heading "Protecting What Makes Our County Great," making county services work better, for less, were: working to lower property taxes; protecting more than 7,000 acres of open space; reducing local traffic.

I would like to take issue with all three claims.

• Working to lower my property taxes? I think not. I don't recall my property taxes going down. If they are really working that hard to lower taxes, then it appears that they are not capable of the task. Maybe they should be fired for being nonproductive.

• Protecting open space? Please. Who gave away 35 acres of Thompson Park to Monroe so that a high school could be built in the park? Who gave away beautiful, established parkland that belonged to every resident of Middlesex County? They call themselves protectors? I think not. With that type of protection we could end up living in an asphalt jungle.

• Reducing local traffic? Reducing congestion without wasting taxpayer dollars? Give me a break. Aren't there more cars on the roads than ever? Hasn't the population of Middlesex County grown? Is everyone telecommuting, shopping online, getting medical advice from the Internet and attending religious services on television? I think not. Everyone is driving. It is interesting how many people have died on county roads in the past few months, and one of the incumbents' accomplishments is what they call "safety upgrades."

The Democratic team members need votes to continue with their illusion of where they are taking the county. To insult the intelligence of this taxpayer with such trash about their accomplishments simply makes me want to replace that team. Support you any longer? I think not. Please don't count on my vote any longer.
