Councilman's revised position on parking-lot expansion irks senior

As a senior citizen, I am infuriated by the flip-flop than Councilman John Krenzel took regarding the expansion of the parking lot next to the South River Human Services Building.

Why is it that Mr. Krenzel and his Republican colleagues think that providing safe access to this facility, which serves so many of our elderly citizens, is so unimportant that the borough shouldn't make this long-overdue project a reality?

The fact is that at the present time not only is there inadequate parking for those people who drive to this facility, but since there is no room for buses to pull into the present lot, many of our seniors have to walk farther than they would if this expansion project were completed.

Maybe for younger people like Mr. Krenzel this doesn't seem like much of a problem, but believe me, for those of us up there in years, it would make all the difference in the world.

Just as troubling as Mr. Krenzel's lack of support for this project is the fact that he changed his position because of what seems to be the pressure applied by his fellow party members. He certainly thought it was worthwhile enough at first to support it, but then all of a sudden he thought it would "cost too much." My question is this: What cost is he concerned about - the cost to the taxpayers or the cost of down-the-line unity that his fellow party members seem to think is so important?

Is it any wonder that people hate politics?
