      Bombers destroy Brick, 34-13, in state playoffs
      Sayreville will now take on West Windsor South
            The Sayreville High School football team will visit second-seeded West Windsor South on Saturday in a second round game in the NJSIAA Central Group IV playoffs. The Bombers, seeded third, blasted Brick, 34-13, at home last Friday.

      New Egypt football gets shut out by South River
            New Egypt coach Tom Farrell knew the Warriors were in for a battle with South River. Farrell expected to be facing a well-coached, physical football team. He got what he anticipated, as his team lost to South River 28-0. New Egypt played South River virtually even for the first half and entered the intermission trailing just 7-0.

      Sports Shorts
            The Monroe U13 Lady Falcons fell to unbeaten Howell 32-24 in MidMonmouth Basketball League play. Monroe yielded a 9-0 first quarter lead that it could not overcome even though it outscored Howell the rest of the way. The offense was balanced with Samantha Clark and Jackie Racine each netting 4 points while Kylie Davidson and Jena Pritzlaff each hit a 3 pointer.

      Fish On
      Bass are plentiful throughout the area
            Water temperatures are finally in the low 50s and the bass are in full swing. From the Raritan Reach, Sandy Hook rips, Romer Shoals, Flynn's Knoll or wherever you were, the birds were working. Bass have been plentiful but mostly shorts, with a mix of small blues. Jigs are producing mostly shorts, while the bigger fish are being caught on clams.

      Monmouth to go on the road and face Penn State on Friday
            For Monmouth University (MU) women's soccer coach Krissy Turner, the fourth time was the charm. Now in her 10th season as Monmouth head coach, Turner has seen her team come within one win of earning a berth in the NCAA Women's College Cup, only to fall short the previous three times.

      Cross-country team wants to finish season on a high note
            The Old Bridge High School boys cross country team will be looking to make its mark on Saturday at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions at Holmdel Park. Coach Rich Gebaurer's team is coming off successive secondplace finishes in the Central Jersey Group IV and overall Group IV meets, finishing behind Jackson and Cherokee, respectively.
