Urges residents to ensure voting eligibility

The League of Women Voters of Monroe Township reminds all citizens that New Jersey's presidential primary will take place on Feb. 5, 2008. Registered voters affiliated with either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party may vote for one of that party's candidates in the primary.

If you have voted in a primary before or designated an affiliation with one of those parties when you registered to vote, you may participate in that party's primary. If you wish to change your affiliation, you must file a new party declaration with the county clerk, commissioner of registration or municipal clerk no later than Dec. 17. Party Declaration forms are available from the league's Web site, www.lwvnj.org, or from the offices mentioned above.

If you did not designate a party when you registered to vote and have not voted in a primary election before, you can go to the polls on Feb. 5 and declare your affiliation as a Democrat or Republican and vote.

If you are not registered to vote, the deadline to register for the presidential primary is Jan. 15, 2008.

We urge all citizens to ensure that they are eligible to vote for the candidate of their choice on Feb. 5.
