      East Brunswick AARP to hold Feb. 12 meeting
            The next general meeting of AARP East Brunswick Chapter No. 4855 will be held beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 12 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center. Laura Stone of the Visiting Nurse Association will offer "Healthy Hearts," a presentation focusing on cardiovascular disease, the No. 1 killer of women.

      Kindergarten signups set for Monroe Schools
            Monroe Township Public Schools will hold kindergarten registration on Feb. 26 and 27 and March 5 and 6. Parents should bring their child's original birth certificate or passport, current immunization record and proof of residency (parents'deed, current tax bill, HUD-1 statement, lease). A child must be 5 years old by Oct. 31, 2008.

      Forgiveness Sunday to mark start of Lent
            St. Bartholomew's Church, 460 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick, will mark the beginning of the Lenten season with a Forgiveness Sunday set for Feb. 10. The exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place following the 12:30 p.m. Mass. A holy hour and vespers will begin at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas Walsh officiating.

            "Hoot, Hoot: The Owls of Cheesequake" is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Cheesequake Park Interpretive Center, 300 Gordon Road, Old Bridge. Participants will learn about the owls of New Jersey, dissect an owl pellet and discover the type of prey owls seek out.
