Happy to see Neary, Klemp opt out of race
I read with delight that East Brunswick Mayor William Neary will not be running for re-election. Finally, something to cheer about.
Unfortunately, we will still be stuck with him until the end of the year, so he can still continue to screw up the Toll Brothers "Transit City" and also the Heavenly Farms project. Our only redemption will be the fact that we will have Councilman David Stahl rattling Mayor Neary's chain. He is not going to find the going easy.
A great relief also is that Councilman Donald Klemp is not seeking re-election. How could he, anyway? With the "Puppet Master" leaving, he would have had no one to pull his strings.
I also had a good laugh that one of Mayor Neary's reasons for not going another round is that there is a need for someone exciting. Well that is one thing he wasn't. Another excuse was stress to his family. What about the stress he has put us through? If he had left after his first term, it would have saved us a lot of headaches.
Another reason used was to focus on his new career. Director of Keep Middlesex Moving is the job Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders Director David Crabiel made for him. I can't imagine him being very exciting there, either. Thinking about it gave me food for thought. Crabiel is now Mayor Neary's "Puppet Master." Sounds good to me. Instead of him pulling strings, his strings will be pulled. They deserve each other. Birds of a feather flock together.
The only thing I was sorry to hear was that Nancy Pinkin wasn't going out the door, also. Well, it's never over until it's over, so maybe we will luck out there too.
There has been increasing criticism, and much of it scathing of the administration. I did my best periodically to let the public know just what is going on in our township. One can't do more than that.
