      South River baseball trying to get on base in early season
      Rams off to 1-5 start
            Though the South River High School baseball team has been hitting the ball well in the early going, the Rams have nonetheless struggled to a 1-5 start. Coach Mike Lepore's team is batting .281 overall, but he noted that the team needs to improve its defensive play to be competitive in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division.

      Rutgers Roundup
            The Rutgers football team will close out spring practice with the annual Scarlet White game on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Rutgers Stadium. The game will again benefit the pediatric units of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Saint Peter's University Hospital.

      Sports Shorts
            The Old Bridge Junior Knights hockey organization traveled to Lake Placid, N.Y., on March 27 for the Can/Am Challenge Cup tournament. Seven teams made the trip. The sea of purple against the beautiful snow-covered mountains and mirror lake was truly a sight to behold. Over 250 Old Bridge supporters joined the caravan, including players, their families and friends.
