      Use of regressive property tax to fund education defies logic
            Ihave to question the kind of reasoning, if any, that was used by our state legislators when they enacted some laws. If you were told that the funding of education was to be derived by taxing the poorest people at a higher percentage than the richest people, you would say that can't be done. But that is exactly what is being done today and has been going on for years. Why?

      Walk to raise funds for cancer research
            My husband, Steven, and I are registered for the Breast Cancer 3 Day. This is a 60- mile, three-day walk raising funds to fight breast cancer. It is a very emotional, uplifting journey benefiting a worthy cause. Beyond the minimum $2,200 each walker must raise is the physical commitment we make.

      Owners warned to keep pets safe from thieves
            Members of the Domestic Companion Animal Council have seen an alarming rise in dog thefts in recentmonths and warn pet owners to be vigilant. In the first three months of 2008, the American Kennel Club has tracked more than 30 thefts from news and customer reports, versus only 10 for all of 2007.
