      Subdued triumphs for Raceway Park winners
            Winners at the Lucas Oil SuperNationals at Raceway Park were in no mood to celebrate their victories on Sunday. The death of one of its own, National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta in a qualifying round accident on Saturday, cast a gloom over the event.

      Racecar driver has fatal crash at local drag strip
            Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta, 46, died Saturday in a high-speed racing accident at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. The accident occurred during qualifying for the following day's Lucas Oil NHRA (NationalHot Rod Association) SuperNationals.

      Pitching paces Monroe Jr. baseball squad to fast start
            The Monroe Junior American Legion baseball team opened the summer schedule with six straight victories, already equaling its total wins of a year ago. Coach Ed Pritzlaff's team has been strong all around, but the pitching in particular has served the Falcons, who are playing for American Legion Post 519, well.

      Plenty of bass, crabs to be found in local waters
            Since Father's Day, bass fishing north of Shark River into the Raritan Reach has been uneventful for most. Most reports of big bass seem to be south of the Shark River inlet along the surf to Barnegat Light. From the Suds, Paul Danielczyk reported on NJSaltwaterfisherman.com that the bass were everywhere along Island Beach State Park (IBSP).
