      Fishing Derby planned for Aug. 12 in Monroe
            The Monroe Township Recreation Department will hold its annual Fishing Derby for Monroe residents from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 12 at Molders Fish Farm, John Wall Road, Monroe. Children under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Hooks, bobbers and worms will be provided. Participants must bring their own fishing poles. The free event will include lunch and prizes.

            A variety of upcoming programs for adults will be offered at the Monroe Township Library, 4 Municipal Plaza. The Saturday Review Book Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 9. Topic will be "Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson. Interested individuals should sign up and reserve a copy of the book at circulation.

      Japanese/Chinese drama to be screened at festival
            The annual Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will continue on Aug. 5 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. showings of the Japanese/Chinese Danish drama "Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles." The 2005 movie, which is rated PG, has a running time of 107 minutes.

      Environmental programs on tap at S.R. Library
            The South River Public Library, 55 Apppleby Ave., will host a six-week series of programs titled "Save the Earth," 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Aug. 26. Youngsters ages 5-10 are invited to attend.

      Event at Friday's will benefit St. Stan's
            St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Sayreville, will sponsor a fundraiser on Aug. 13 at TGI Friday's, Route 9 north, Old Bridge. Participants should tell their server they are there to support St. Stan's. The restaurant will then donate 20 percent of each supporter's bill (eat in or takeout) to the school.

      Family Movie Night on tap at legion post
            Spotswood American Legion Post No. 253 Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a Family Movie Night at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the post home, Devoe Avenue, next to the lake.             EAST BRUNSWICK — Starting tomorrow, police will launch a campaign to crack down on speeding. The annual effort, called the Aggressive Driver Enforcement Program, will run through Labor Day weekend. The anti-speeding campaign is incorporated in the program.
