      Buckelew 5K set for 9/6 in Thompson Park
            The Jamesburg Revitalization Coalition will sponsor the second annual Buckelew 5K foot race on Buckelew Day, Sept. 6, in Thompson Park. The Buckelew 5K will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. The cost to participate is $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the race.

      Soloist will bring Broadway to library
            The Friends of The Spotswood Public Library will host concert soloist Nina Deutsch as she performs "Classical Broadway With a Twist" at noon Aug. 25 at the library, 548 Main St. Deutsch, a graduate of The Juilliard School, New York City, will offer a program featuring the music of George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers and Cole Porter.

      Salon sale to benefit Memorial supply drive
            Four local salons are holding a sale to benefit East Brunswick's Memorial Elementary School, Innes Road. The school, which suffered a fire on July 10, is uninhabitable and its students will be relocated to another school building. Much of the school's supplies were lost, the community is working to rebuild those collections.

      MCC to offer veterinary assistant program this fall
            Middlesex County College, in partnership with Sayrebrook Veterinary Hospital, will offer a Veterinary Assistant Certificate, starting in September. Entrance requirements include a high school diploma or GED, proficiency in spoken and written English, and proof of personal health insurance.
