Spotswood plant celebrates milestones

SPOTSWOOD — The Schweitzer- Mauduit International Inc. plant recently held breakfast and barbecue events for all employees to celebrate the recent achievement of two safety milestones.

On June 8, the mill reached 2 million hours worked without a lost time accident. Soon after, on July 20, the plant achieved the goal of three years without a lost time accident. To help mark these accomplishments in safety performance, each employee received a specially designed commemorative cap and letter of recognition from Chuck Vollmer, mill manager and Frederic Villoutreix, chief operating officer.

Schweitzer-Mauduit is a diversified producer of premium specialty papers and is the world's largest supplier of fine papers to the tobacco industry. The Spotswood mill, which now employs nearly 300 employees and operates 24 hours a day, has operated continuously since 1941.

Schweitzer-Mauduit also manufactures specialty papers for use in other applications. The company and its subsidiaries conduct business in over 90 countries and employ 3,300 people worldwide, with operations in the United States, France, Brazil, the Philippines, Indonesia, Canada and a joint venture in China.
