      No reason to carry cell phones in school
            This one is a no-brainer. Students should not be allowed to carry cell phones during regular school hours. When I was in high school (Manalapan, class of 1982), there were no cell phones and we managed just fine. If there is an emergency, the student can inform their teacher, who will send themto the office.

      Writer, official should consider needs of disabled
            Iam writing this letter in response to the three recent letters regarding handicapped persons in Spotswood. Firstly, I would like to thank Terry Dunn for her efforts and I understand her complete frustration. My husband is a tax-paying, handicapped citizen of Spotswood and my neighbor is also a handicapped adult.

      Toll hikes unfair to overburdened commuters
            While I recognize that additional revenue would be required for expansion or possibly maintenance of the current toll roads including the New Jersey Turnpike, commuters that use these three roads should not be considered a bottomless pit at the ready to fund any and all projects.

      Garage sale to benefit shelter pets Oct. 12
            The Sayreville Pet Adoption Center, 1400 Main Street in Sayreville, will hold a garage sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 12 to benefit the shelter pets. The sale will be held in the shelter's parking lot.

            St. Thomas the Apostle School, Route 18 south, Old Bridge, is sponsoring a "Fall Crafts and More" show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18 in the school auditorium. Handmade crafts, baked goods, tricky trays, a 50/50 and select vendors will be available.
