      E.B. girls soccer prepping for GMC tourney
            There has to be a rational explanation why East Brunswick's girls soccer team has been at the top of the Greater Middlesex Conference since it started playing the sport in 1978. Third-year coach Kevin Brady knows the answer. "The girls are polished and have a lot of experience before they come to us," he said.

            The Monroe High School girls tennis team upped its record to 4-3 last week with a victory over Perth Amboy. The young Falcons are looking to remain competitive as its younger players gain more experience at the varsity level — and Monroe has been successful thus far.

      O.B. volleyball aiming for postseason success
            The Old Bridge High School girls volleyball team looked to parlay its topnotch defense into a strong showing in both the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) and NJSIAA Central Jersey Group IV tournaments. Coach Carol Silverberg's team got off to a 6-4 start and finished its GMC Red Division schedule when Edison came to visit last week.

            Trailing 3-0 in the second half, Monmouth University senior Joanna DeMoor netted two scores to pull the Hawks within a lone goal, but eventually fell 3-2 at Central Connecticut State in Northeast Conference women's soccer action. Monmouth, which was on a nine-game unbeaten streak, falls to 10-2-1 on the season and 3-1 in league play.
