      It is literally a new season for Monroe's football team as it prepares for Friday night's first-ever home playoff game against Ocean Township. That's the way Chris Beagan, head coach, sees it. When asked about last Friday's 19-7 loss to South Brunswick, which closed out the regular season, Beagan pronounced the game "was behind us.

      St. Bart's Buffalos Pop Warner Football Junior PeeWees are division champions, beating Red Bank 21-0 on Sunday in the championship game. They are the Jersey Shore Division 3 Conference Champs as well as the regular-season division champs with a record of 9-1. They move on this weekend to Eastern Regions and play the Methacon Wolverines from Pennsylvania at 9 a.m.

NJSIAA Central Sectional Cross-Country Championships
      At Saturday's Group Championships, the top three teams and top 10 individuals will automatically qualify for the Meet of Champions on Nov. 22 at Holmdel. There will be 10 wild card berths for the 10 fastest nonqualifying individuals as well as two at-large team (non-placing teams with the best total times of all the fourth- and fifth-place teams).
