Mr. Carmella, of Spotswood, formerly of New Brunswick and Edison, died Nov. 14, 2008, at home. Prior to his retirement in 2000, he managed Grand Plaza Shoe Service, East Brunswick, and Spotswood Shoe Service. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose Punturno Carmella. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Carmella; a son, Gordon Crawford, and a daughter, Louise Valendo, both of Spotswood; four brothers, Angelo and Thomas, both of North Brunswick, Lenny of Lake Worth, Fla., and Sam of the Somerset section of Franklin; two sisters, Carmelita Berg of North Brunswick and Mary Mancuso of the Forked River section of Lacey; five grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. A Mass was offered at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood. Interment was in St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. Arrangements were under the direction of Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick.
