CNJSB Porto, a new U15 boys MAPS soccer team based in East Brunswick, participated in the Howell United Holiday Cup in Howell on Nov. 28 and 29 and the MAPS/MSSL Winter Classic Tournament in Philadelphia on Dec. 6 and 7. Porto finished in second place at both tournaments. At the Howell United Holiday Cup (Premier Championship division), Porto played five games with no subs, went undefeated through the semi-finals and fought hard in a 1-0 loss to a tough East Windsor team in the finals, earning Porto a second-place trophy in their first tournament.
In the MAPS/MSSL Winter Classic Tournament, Porto earned second place again after competing against teams from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland, ending with a record of 2-1-1. Porto is looking to add a few players to its spring roster.

The Baseball Warehouse Instructional Academy, Highland Park, will hold a Holiday Baseball Camp on Dec. 29-31 from 9:30 a.m. to noon for all Little League players ages 7-12 years old. The cost of the camp is $75 if the player registers by Dec. 20 and $100 after that. The camp will cover hitting, throwing, pitching and fielding. The Millstone Cyclones United U-10 girls travel soccer team had an outstanding season this past fall. Their winning record ensured a berth in the Premier level of the Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association. Rounding out the roster for this winning squad were: Julia Alves, Sydney Cummings, Katie DiFrancesco, Alexa Guadagno, Mallory Keefe, Kiera Murphy, Becky Paglia, Sydney Regina, Molly Robinson, Alyssa Sloane and Meghan Whitney.
Coaches Rocco Regina, Jim Whitney, and Tom Murphy would like to thank all of the Cyclone fans and family members for their continued support of the girls and their successes — both on and off the field.
The most recent addition to the Millstone United Travel Soccer club for this past fall were the Ironmen, a U12 boys travel team. They played their inaugural season in the Monmouth Ocean Soccer Association in a competitive flight III grouping.
The roster for the hard-hitting men of Iron were: Gaetano D'Agostini, Vincenzo Ferriola, Ethan Greenberg, Paul Haines, Jay Hyland, Anthony Morris, Austin Moy, Conor Murphy, Xander Pannizzo, Eddie Rosero, Brett Sandford, Craig Sandford, and Patrick Zahn. Coaches Tom Murphy, Rich Morris and Chuck Moy would like to thank all of the parents and families in their support and hard work in making this a successful first season.
The Raritan Bay Cougars defeated the Port Arthur (Texas) Cowboys 50-25 at Disney's Wide World of Sports in a semifinal game of the Pop Warner Championships.
The Cougars scored first on a Minkah Fitzpatrick two-yard run to make the score 6-0.
The Cowboys then scored on a long run and made the extra point to take the lead, 7-6.
After exchanging scoring drives over the next few possessions, the Cougars opened up a 30-13 lead as Daniel Grillo caught a five-yard pass, enabling the Cougars to advance to the title game.
The Cougars faced the Union Road Jaguars from North Carolina, and the game was a battle to the end. The first half would end with the Jaguars ahead, 6-0.
The Cougars were jump-started in the second half by Dmitriy Mikhol, who sacked the Jags' quarterback for an eight-yard loss just before halftime. The Cougars came out in the second half to score on a pass of 25 yards to Julanee Prince from Jordan Fetterman, and with the extra point the score was 7-6,
The Jaguars scored again to go up 12-7. In the fourth quarter, the Cougars drove to the 2-yard line with 30 seconds left on the clock. Fetterman hit Mike Friedman in the flat and was tackled at the goal line and pushed forward and fell into the end zone for what would be the winning touchdown for the Cougars. The Cougar defense put forth a strong effort to hold the high-scoring Jags to just 12 points with outstanding play from Mike Friedman, Chris Hulse and Dmitriy Mikhol. The Cougars won the National Championship game, 15-12.
The Raritan Bay Cougars PeeWee Football Team is the first football team in Old Bridge to be crowned Pop Warner National Champions.
