      Fitness programs on tap in Monroe
            The Monroe Township Recreation Department is offering a new session of exercise and fitness programs for Monroe residents. Classes are open to Monroe residents only; a township identification card must be obtained prior to registration at the Monroe Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road.

      Event will benefit Fast Break B'ball
            The Fast Break Basketball Association of East Brunswick will sponsor a Dine to Donate fundraiser on Jan. 11 at Cheeburger Cheeburger, located in the Best Buy Shopping Center at 33 Highway 9 South, Manalapan. Diners should present a Dine to Donate flier at the restaurant. Cheeburger Cheeburger will then donate 15 percent of supporters' bills to Fast Break Basketball.

      Dancing to the oldies on tap in Old Bridge
            A Rock 'n' Roll Oldies Dance is set for 8-11 p.m. Jan. 16 at Knights of Columbus No. 4815 Council Hall, 61 Pine St., Old Bridge. The event will feature music by a DJ and dancing to the sounds of the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s. There will be a 50/50, door prizes and a cash bar for mixers.

      Feline 'deals' offered at adoption center
            Sayreville Pet Adoption Center, 1400 Main St., will hold its 2008 Feline Model- Year Clearance event through the month of January. Any shelter kitten or cat born in 2008 may be adopted for $20 during the event. The cost includes all vaccines, combo testing, deworming, flea/tick treatment and spaying/neutering.

            The Milltown Department of Recreation has offers for several upcoming events open to borough residents and nonresidents. Tickets are available for the 1 p.m. performance of "Bob the Builder" at the State Theatre, New Brunswick, for Jan. 19, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a school holiday. Theatergoers must provide their own transportation.

            The East Brunswick High School (EBHS) Girls Basketball Team will sponsor a Dining-to-Donate fundraiser from noon to midnight Jan. 14 at Chili's, Route 18 south, East Brunswick. Diners who eat in or take out should let their server know they are there to support the team. A Dining-to-Donate flier must be presented at the restaurant for the donation to count.

      Tickets available for Comedy Night
            American Legion Post No. 253, Devoe Avenue, Spotswood, will hold a Comedy Night starring Matt Bridgestone on Jan. 24. A buffet dinner is set for 7-8:30 p.m. The show will begin at 9 p.m. Cost is $50 per couple, $30 per person, and includes beer, wine, soda, the buffet and show. All tickets must be purchased in advance; tickets will not be sold at the door.

            The East Brunswick Chapter of Hadassah will hold its annual Progressive Dinner at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 10 in private homes in East Brunswick. Guests are invited to eat, talk and connect with Israel through Hadassah. Couvert is $118 per couple, $59 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower at Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem.
