      Rutgers squanders big opportunity

      Boys to face state's elite this weekend
            It is very possible that the East Brunswick boys bowling team could be one of the best in the state, but still not be the best in their conference. That's because the Greater Middlesex Conference is home to arguably the best bowling league in the state. It is not only home to defending New Jersey champion Sayreville, but also perennial power Woodbridge.

            You have to give Sandy Mascali credit for staying positive. The Monroe girls basketball coach believes her Falcons are headed in the right direction despite an 0-5 start to the season and coming off a 4-19 mark from a year ago.

      Old Bridge ice hockey in midst of turnaround
      Knights are currently undefeated
            The Old Bridge High School ice hockey team is off to a fine 6-0-1 start and is contending for the top spot in the New Jersey Ice Hockey League's Central Conference Blue Division. Coach Drew Campbell's team struggled to a 2-13 mark last winter, but rebounded to win its final two games against Edison and Pope Paul VI.

            Monroe girls lacrosse is now accepting registrations for the spring season beginning March 1. This is for girls in grades two through eight. Registration fee through Feb. 2 is $100 and after Feb. 2 is $110. Information on the Monroe Girls Lacrosse Program and lacrosse in general is available at monroegirlslacrosse.com.
