Residents must speak up before it's too late for Forney House In reading the letter to the editor from Michael Shakarjian regarding the fate of the Forney House in Milltown ("Don't Allow Milltown to Become Pottersville," Sentinel, Jan. 8, 2009), we must admit that we, among many other residents, have not made our voices heard. As longtime Milltowners, we can recall the similar incident directly across the street from the proposed bank, where a beautiful Victorian home was demolished to build, as you might guess, a bank. In a town of approximately 7,500 residents, I would think that having four banks in our town would suffice. Our Main Street already has more traffic than its pedestrians can bear, and with a school practically in the proposed bank's backyard, we don't need another drive-up causing further risk to our children.
Let's not be silent before it's too late. Help in any way you can to support the John C. Evans Project, the organization formed to oppose the destruction of the Forney House. The project's members have worked long and hard to find a way to save and preserve this valuable landmark. |
