            The East Brunswick Historical Society will present attorney Alan Brodman and students from the Institute for Political and Legal Education in a program titled "The Bill of Rights: Its History" 2-4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

      Event at Friday's next up for OLOL
            Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) School, Milltown, will host a Proceeds Night fundraiser 5-9 p.m. Feb. 26 at TGI Friday's, Route 1 south, North Brunswick. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of each supporter's check (eat-in or takeout) to the school. Diners must present an event flier for the donation to count.

      Elks offers American flags for purchase
            Jamesburg Elks Lodge No. 2180, 74 W. Railroad Ave., is sponsoring a Flag Sale during its Friday-night Fish Fries through Sept. 11. American flags will be available in various sizes, types and price ranges. Complete flag kits also will be offered. The lodge is accepting faded or tattered flags for proper disposition.

      Tickets on sale for comedy fundraiser
            The Stress Factory Comedy Club, 90 Church St., New Brunswick, will present a Feb. 15 comedy-show fundraiser to benefit Spotswood High School Project Graduation. Dinner is set for 5 p.m. The show will begin at 7 p.m. Headliner will be comedian Tom Mc- Tiernan. Tickets cost $35 each.

      Friends sponsoring trip to flower show
            The Friends of the East Brunswick Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will sponsor its annual trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 5. The bus will depart at 9 a.m. from the parking lot next to Kmart (behind the former Levitz Furniture store), Route 18, East Brunswick. Return is scheduled for approximately 5 p.m.

            The Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg will host a Mardi Gras Party beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 in the church Fellowship Hall, 175 Gatzmer Ave. The event will feature food, beads, feather masks, music and more. Tickets cost $20 per person; children under age 10 will be admitted free of charge.

            The HSA of Sacred Heart School, Cedar Street, South Amboy, will host its annual Lenten Fish Dinner 4-7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the school cafeteria (Walnut Street entrance). Food choices are: fish dinner, $8; fish sandwich, $6; tuna sandwich, $5; potato pierogi, $5; slice of pizza, $2. All meals include salad, soft drinks and dessert.

            A Rock 'n' Roll Oldies Dance is set for 8-11 p.m. Feb. 20 at Knights of Columbus No. 4815 Council Hall, 61 Pine St., Old Bridge. The event will feature music by a DJ and dancing to the sounds of the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s. There will be a 50/50, door prizes and a cash bar for mixers.

            New Jersey libraries are responding to the needs of the community as the economy continues to reel and New Jersey's unemployment rate soars. Libraries are adding programs to help community members who have lost their jobs to learn new skills, cope with new challenges and to ease fears.

      Hikers to learn about South River aquifer
            The Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership (LBWP) will sponsor a hike in the South River aquifer beginning at 1 p.m. Feb. 21. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to 10 a.m. Feb. 22. Hikers will meet in the gravel parking lot at Fairway Golf, Marlboro Road, south of the Ferry Street light at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division, off Route 18 south.

            Lawrence Brook Watershed Partnership (LBWP) will meet 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Milltown Senior Center, 60 Violet Terrace. David Wheeler of Edison Wetlands Association will speak on "Raritan: A River in Recovery." He will address the issues regarding the successes in improving environmental conditions of the Raritan as well as the tasks that lay ahead.

            Contributions are sought to help the East Brunswick Education Foundation (EBEF) complete its goal of placing a professionalquality grand piano at the East Brunswick Performing Arts Center (EBPAC) at Hammarkskjold Middle School. Partial funding for the piano has been provided through a grant by the EBEF.

            The South River Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast on Feb. 22 at St. Euphrosynia Belarusian Church Hall, 284 Whitehead Ave., South River. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children age 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the visually impaired. Tickets are available at the door or from Lions Club members.

      School seeks members for advisory council
            New members are sought for the Our Lady of Lourdes School Advisory Council (SAC), Milltown, which was organized in July 2006 to share in the governance of the parish school. The council was charged by the Diocese of Metuchen to make recommendations to the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the principal of Our Lady of Lourdes School in areas pertinent to the school.

            The Popular Films Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will conclude Feb. 17 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. screenings of the American romantic-comedy "Ghost Town" starring Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni. The 2008 movie, which is rated PG- 13, has a running time of 102 minutes.
