Efforts of many led to success of event On Jan. 24 American Legion Post No. 253, Spotswood, sponsored our first Comedy Night. All proceeds were to help repair our roof, so I decided that this should be a joint event sponsored by all three groups of our legion — the veterans, the ladies auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion. We would all contribute the same effort. This is something that isn't practiced often in any organization so it would be a challenge, but I was willing to tackle it. I wrote down exactly what was to be expected from each group — e.g., 25 tickets sold by each group, three food dishes (enough to serve 100 people) for our buffet, three baskets for our basket auction, volunteers to help set up clean up and work the night of the event. This, to me, doesn't seem like a lot to ask of any group, and we would all be benefiting by fixing the roof. Well, with all our hard work and help from everyone, we sold out the Comedy Night, had great food for our buffet, and the baskets were beautiful.
I just want to express my thanks to everyone who helped make this a successful and fun evening and show people that it can be done. If everyone works together, three groups can become one. This is the way all organizations should try to work. Stop the division and become united. |
