Cut school budget, not trash services

Iwish our new mayor, David Stahl, a successful term in office; however, I think he is taking the wrong path by going to a once-a-week garbage collection.

Anyone who uses the local roads knows that they are never swept, and a once-a-week collection will just lead to more litter being dumped from vehicles.

I live in a condominium and cannot leave a trash bag or a can outside my unit. Many condo owners have dogs and are required to pick up the litter. What will a week's supply of doggie doo-doo smell like in the warmer weather?

What I have noticed is my sewerage bill has gone up $40 this year, and I just received a notice that my property-tax rate is being reassessed. I regard both these items as tax increases.

In all fairness, the municipal government is only responsible for 33 percent of the township tax bill. The Board of Education is responsible for 66 percent. Last year less than 1 percent of the rejected school budget was cut, and this is where savings can and must be made.

Your turn, Mayor Stahl. Eliminating two unfilled positions is a good start but requires no pain.
