      Don't cheat children in budget decisions
            It saddened me to read the letter to the editor titled "Cut School Budget, Not Trash Services" (Sentinel, Feb. 12) that implied there is some tradeoff between money spent on garbage pickup and education.

      Raritan Bay converts to tobacco-free campus
            In February, Raritan Bay Medical Center became a completely tobacco-free campus. As a result, smoking and all tobacco products are prohibited on all hospital grounds including parking lots and garages. The decision to convert to a tobacco free campus is part of our ongoing commitment to provide the best health care for our communities.

      Property taxes, not mortgages, choking many homeowners
            We need to cut property taxes substantially for all; we don't need meager tax breaks here and there. Many people could afford their home when they bought it. It's not the mortgages that are strangling many of our homeowners, it is the property taxes.
