Don't let economic woes keep towns from investing in education
I'm writing to express my support, in these troubling economic times, for the outstanding educational system in the state of New Jersey. Our schools are among the best, if not the very best, in the nation.
When the economy suffers, it is very tempting to begin cutting public support in as many places as possible in order to reduce the tax burden on our citizens. I want to help bolster the progressive instincts of our state and encourage us to not lose sight of the longterm goals and plans we have.
Reducing spending on public education will prove very shortsighted and will not help us pull out of the financial mess we are in. Instead, we will not be living up to our obligations to our youngest citizens, and we will have failed to properly invest in the future strength of our state.
Please do not let your communities fall for the temptation to reduce investments in our educational future.
