      Let consolidation begin with Legislature
            The governor and our Legislature keep pushing our towns for shared services and consolidation. It's time for them to practice what they preach. We have 40 legislative districts in our state with 40 senators and 80 Assembly members. Each has his or her own office and staff. Senators each get $236,725 for staffing and expenses, and the Assembly members each get $174,562.

      Savings from garbage proposal not worth it
            Mayor David Stahl seems bound and determined to cut East Brunswick's garbage collection. In the face of the public outcry over switching from twice-weekly to onceweekly service year round, he is now pushing a compromise that would retain twice-weekly service during the summer months only.

      Same old, same old on Spotswood Board of Education
            Alan Bartlett, who has served on the Spotswood Board of Education for the last nine years, is finally stepping down because, as he states in his letter to the editor ("Stepping Down, But Grateful for Privilege To Have Served," Sentinel, March 26), "It's time for new thoughts and fresh ideas" on the Spotswood Board of Education.
