The East Brunswick Wrestling Club 'Senior' Team completed its season with a strong showing in the Mid-Jersey Senior Wrestling League Championship Tournament in Marlboro, taking second place overall. The team effort was lead by first place performances by Ryan Fahy, Vinnie Fiorello, Ricky Perrine and Jonathan Shleyfer, who garnered the Outstanding Wrestler award for the tournament. Earning second place spots were Jason Minikel, Michael Nicolaro and Michael O'Kane. Third place winners were Garrett Kohn and James Calbach, with Tyler Gallegos, Travis Lutzko, Billy Archer and Vinnie Federico earning fourth places. Fifth Place was won by Patrick Rafferty and seventh Place by Eric Webber. Injuries and illnesses kept Crispin Prott, Max Pavlis and Dominick Maselli from wrestling in the tournament. Overall, the team finished with a record of 23-13, took third place in the Hazlet Holiday Tournament, second in the Edison/Steven Fulcher Memorial Tournament and second in the Mid-Jersey Senior League Championship. Six wrestlers qualified for the 2009 NJ Kids State Championships, where Vinnie Fiorello placed sixth in the state at 80 pounds, Ricky Perrine placed sixth at 91 pounds and Jonathan Shleyfer placed seventh at 128 pounds. The team is coached by Keith Yarnall, Mike Duhigg, Tim Beaton, Mike Fahy and Mike Nicolaro.
The Sayreville Bomber golf outing, sponsored by the Football Touchdown Club and the Baseball Booster Club, will be held April 18 at the Bunker Hill Golf Course in Princeton. Beginning at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start, the day will include hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages on the course, and dinner immediately following at Bunker Hill, as well as raffles and 50/50. Prizes will be awarded for closest to pin, longest drive and best score. Price is $125 for an individual or $460 for a foursome. Sponsorships are available.
