      EBHS returns talent to volleyball court
            They are victims of their own success. That's the price East Brunswick High School's boys volleyball team pays when it loses a match, something that feels about as frequent as the Cubs winning the World Series. At this juncture in the young season, the Bears are 4-1, with the defeat coming to rival St. Joseph of Metuchen.

            South River High School golf Coach Jim Mackiewicz is refreshingly candid when he talks about the makeup of his team. He understands that many local residents haven't traditionally embraced the sport like, for instance, football.

            The Monroe Township High School varsity softball team was victorious in season opener against Carteret. The girls won by a score of 12-8 in a hard-fought game on the road. The game's outcome was incorrect in a story published April 9 in the Sentinel.

      Sports Shorts
            The Sayreville Leprechauns Football and Cheering Association is holding registration for the 2009 season from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 18 and 25 at the Mickey Sedlak Civic Center on Dolan Street. Registration is open for all children ages 5-15. The fee is $75 for the first child, $125 for two or more children and $200 for a work bond.
