      Let school board cut administrative jobs
            The East Brunswick Board of Education has told us a nice story about how it is saving us money, and that is all well and good, but it's an election year so let's dig a little deeper. How is the board accomplishing this Herculean task and why would a Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) family care as long as it saves money?

      Urges council to keep library strong
            While it is understandable that every town service may have to be impacted during these difficult financial times, library patrons in East Brunswick cannot be silent about the proposed budget cuts. Cutting back on the hours of service, as planned, will hurt many vulnerable people who need access to the library because they do not have resources in their homes.

      They compost, and their garbage does not stink
            Ibelieve that any attempt, no matter how small, to help our economy and environment is beneficial to us all. We all have a responsibility to try to find ways to save our town from an increase in property taxes. Pointing fingers to previous administrations is useless, as is criticizing current leadership.

      Senate commended for passing Serve America Act
            On behalf of our 1.4 million members in the Garden State, AARP New Jersey applauds the Senate for passing the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. New Jerseyans should know that both Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez voted in favor of the bill.
