      Joan R. Roman

      Mrs. Roman, 73, of Metuchen, died May 16, 2009, in JFK Medical Center, Edison. Born in Blakley, Pa., she lived in Dixon City, Pa., before moving to Metuchen 49 years ago. She co-owned the Metuchen Craft Shoppe for 17 years. She was a graduate of Easton Hospital School of Nursing, Easton, Pa., where she earned an associate's degree. A member of the Metuchen-Edison Woman's Club, she also delivered meals and was a board member for the Middlesex County Meals on Wheels program. She was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral, Metuchen. A member of the New Jersey Federation of Republican Women and the Middlesex County Women's Republican Club and a committee member of the Metuchen and Middlesex County Republican clubs, she was named Republican of the Year in 1991. She was a former den leader with Cub Scout Pack No. 69 and an officer with Metuchen Pop Warner and Edgar School PTA, Metuchen. Her husband, Ronald M. Roman, a former Middlesex County freeholder and director, died in 2000. She also was predeceased by her parents, Sophie and Edward Libudziewski, and by a sister, Constance Hess. Surviving are a daughter, Karen L. Kesten, and her husband, Jeff, of East Brunswick; two sons, Ronald M. Roman Jr. of Asheville, N.C., and Michael E. Roman of Titusville, Fla.; and a grandson, Keith Kesten. Services were held at Flynn & Son Funeral Home, Fords section of Woodbridge. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Francis Cathedral. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Metuchen. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels in Metuchen- Edison and Woodbridge, 2 George Frederick Plaza, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.
