      Monroe man wins world taekwondo championship
      Tim Chewning succeeds on 14th try in sparring
            Tim Chewning is proof that perseverance pays off. A sixth-degree black belt in taekwondo, the popular martial arts form, Chewning was recently on the mat for his 14th and final attempt at winning a world championship in sparring at the American Taekwondo Association championships in Little Rock, Ark.

            The Monroe Township 10's Dirty Birds successfully defended their District 9 Cal Ripken Championship last week for the fourth consecutive year with an 8-2 win over South Plainfield. The team now advances to the Northern New Jersey State Championship round in Mount Olive beginning July 9, where the team is the twotime defending state champion.
