The Blaze, a U-11 boys soccer team, seeks to add a few players to its roster. The team is affiliated with the Central New Jersey Silver Soccer Club, which is based in East Brunswick. The Central East Jersey Basketball Officials Organization (CEJBO) seeks men and women interested in becoming a high school basketball official for the 2009- 10 seasons. The two-year training program, which will include classes, observation and on-the-court sessions, will be held 7-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at East Brunswick High School and is open to those ages 18 and over. The East Brunswick Explosion, a U- 19 girls team, seeks to add several dedicated players to its roster. The team, which will train over the winter and compete in the spring season, is professionally trained by Theresa Rossi and coached by Mark Schaff and Matty Cordasco. Players must be born after Aug. 1, 1990, and is open to all girls in high school. For details, email ebexplosion@ comcast.net.

Force One Competition Team, which trains at Fastkix Taekwondo in Spotswood, sent twelve students along with their instructor Kevin Balon and team coach Charles Ferrone to compete with over 2000 athletes from across the country in the 2009 AAU Taekwondo National Championships in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The 12 students from team Force One won twenty-two national medals. Competing against athletes from schools across the nation, students trained every day at Fastkix Taekwondo in preparation for this big event. Fastkix Taekwondo is the Headquarters for the New Jersey District and Region 1 of the AAU Taekwondo program. The medal winners were: Mr. Balon, gold; Gabriel Basalatan, two gold, silver; Susan Batko, gold, silver, bronze; Genna Basalatan, gold, bronze; Nicholas Carbley, fifth place; Christiano Fernandes, two gold; Charles Ferrone, silver; Savannah Grey, two gold; Gregory Peluso, gold, silver, bronze; Lawrence Portnoy, bronze; Gustavo Singares, silver, bronze; and Nicolle Singares, two silver.
